To be or not to be a valid genus: the systematic position of Ophyra R.-D. revised (Diptera: Muscidae)

Our paper about phylogenetic position of genus Ophyra (Diptera: Muscidae) is now available online in Systematic Entomology. We showed in this paper that the recent hypotheses based on molecular data, concerning the position of the genus in the family, were wrong because of mistakes in some point of data preparation and/or over-interpretation of the results. Our analyses confirmed, however, the earlier phylogenetic hypothesis based on morphology that Ophyra is nested within Hydrotaea calling into question the validity of its generic status. We added to this article detailed pictures of the studied species to facilitate the revision of our work by other scientists. The leading author of this article is Andrzej Grzywacz who works on a phylogeny and developmental biology of Muscideae. This paper was supported by the National Science Center project no. UMO-2015/17/B/NZ8/02453.
